Cara Hochalter, pastor of the Charlemont Federated Church set to work with other volunteers to turn a strip of church lawn into a Squash Patch.

"Charlemont Federated Church is thrilled to be participating in Plant a Row for the Hungry by creating our own Squash Patch. Pat Leuchtman had this idea and helped us plant a patch using the lasagna method! Great fun and the little plants are already up and growing. Winter squash for Good Neighbors this fall!" Cara said.

Volunteers donated rotted manure, cardboard, wood chips and labor to set up the Squash Patch which should require very little labor over the summer. Some of us think that nothing is prettier in the edible garden than vigorous sprawling squash vines.
